The Lord Jesus Christ saved Barry York from his sinfulness when he was a student at the University of Michigan. His life verse is John 17:3, This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. Following the completion of his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, he was married to his wife Miriam in 1985 and they moved to West Lafayette, Indiana, where Barry worked on his Masters in the Art of Teaching (Mathematics) from 1985-1988. During this period, the Yorks came into the Reformed Presbyterian Church and the Lord called Barry into the pastoral ministry through the influence of Pastor Dave Long. Barry attended the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he graduated with his Masters of Divinity in 1991. Pastor York accepted the call to come and do church planting work in Kokomo following his graduation. Beginning out of their home and with the assistance from the Lafayette congregation, knowing that God alone causes the growth, Sycamore Reformed Presbyterian Church eventually grew out of an evangelistic and discipleship work to become organized in 1994. Barry continues to serve today as its pastor.
The Lord has blessed Barry and Miriam with six children: Jamey, Lindsay, Trevor, Emory, Spencer and Celia. They have home schooled their children and also began a program in the congregation called Sycamore Covenant Academy to provide more specialized training as the children grow older. The York Familys interests include reading, piano and violin, basketball, and hospitality.
